I just read an article by John Piper about his reaction to the bridge between the Twin Cities falling. In it he says something interesting. He says there are no bridges in the Bible. He says that God doesn't build bridges; he splits seas. This causes us to pass through the troubling currents of suffering and death. I would argue that, even further, this draws us closer to God and encourages us to trust Him more fully.
So, perhaps all of life is like Israel passing through the Red Sea. We are experiencing some terrifying, traumatic stuff. But as we pass through the sea, God leads us. On the other side lies the Promised Land and so much more indescribable goodness.
Is the journey through the sea worth it? Absolutely!
